Goodbye, 2011

I’m not going to go into the entire year — when I look back, I see a lot of sadness and loss, but also some real growth and progress in myself. I learned a ton about myself and about all sorts of random things (how to build a garden bed, why I need better tomato cages this year, the limits of my own stamina). It was not the easiest year on record, nope. But some good stuff too.

Tonight I’m home alone with the kitties. Considering taking myself out to a movie and maybe even – gasp! – getting popcorn. Haven’t had movie-theater popcorn since… I really can’t remember when. Or, I might stay home and curl up in bed with Finn and watch something comforting.

I’ve been going through old stuff today — brought home some things from my hope chest, which I stopped adding to in college, so that’s quite a time capsule. Letters, cards, photos. Things I thought I would need when I was an adult (like rainbow coffee mugs! I bought these when I was 10 years old, for my ‘someday’ house. Who doesn’t need rainbow mugs?) Diaries from as far back as 4th grade. I’ve been journalling again and it’s starting to become addicting. I’m glad. Until I moved to California, I was a compulsive diarist. Then I moved, and I stopped. Not sure why. Time to start again.

My resolutions for 2012 are pretty simple:

  1. Say yes to as much as possible.
  2. Take very good care of myself.
  3. Be happy.

Yep, that’s it. I think I can manage that.

Ok. I think I’m going to try and see Hugo. I hear it’s pretty amazing. Happy New Year, everyone! I intend to invite magic back into my life for 2012. And you?
